During this period, 61 Nos. of over 15 years-used locomotives (life of Diesel
locomotive is 30 years) will be rehabilitated (repowered) as follows.
Purchase of 439 Nos. Passenger Coaches
During this five year's plan, the total numbers of requirement of Upper Class and
Ordinary Class Passenger Coaches and Brake Luggage Van wil1 be 439 Nos. This total numbers
of Freight wagons for Covered Wagon, Sugar cane Wagon, Blast Wagon, Tomber Truck Wagon,
Oil tanker, Container Truck and Brake Wagon will be 892 Nos. as stated below and each type
of Passenger Coaches & Freight Wagons requirement is shown in Annexure.

Adaptation of Automatic - Coupler Compressed Air brake system
MR. Has planned to introduce the adaptation of automatic AAR standard coupler system
and UIC type Compressed air brake system on locomotives and carriages & wagons. All
thd rolling stocks purchased under the OPEC Loan, Yugoslavia Loan and Chinese Loan, will
be fitted with this system according to this adaptation plan.
Construction of Rail Cars (300 HP.) & Trailers
During 1996-97 to 2000-2001. Developing period. 80 numbers of Diesel Rail car and of
its trailers will be constructed in three main workshops at MTT, YUG, ISN and Pazandaung
Railcar workshop (Yangon). New construction of shuntung loco 300 to 500 HP. is being
implemented to haul up to 1000 ton load at 10 mph.
